Nominations are now closed for 2020, watch for Heroes to be announced in May.
On May 16, 2019, our community came together to celebrate and recognize the amazing individuals that perform exceptional acts of service that are selfless and courageous, making our community such a vibrant place to live, work and play.
The Local Hero Awards were formed with the intention of creating a platform for those powerful people stories that make our community strong. The awards brings together a diverse range of organizations and individuals, in the form of our sponsors, partners, nominees and nominators – to honour our community heroes.
And, it takes a community to produce the awards. The Record would like to thank Michele Courtney & Bill Anglin from Courtney & Anglin Real Estate Group for the title sponsorship and emcee duties for the 4th annual event. And a sincere thank you to all of our sponsors for their continued support.
We have proudly presented locally handcrafted awards each year by Lynn Branson & Cascadian Woodtech. Lynn Branson was recently awarded the Distinction of “Living Legend” by the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art in Maryland – the World Championships. Lynn is the first, and only, woman in the 49 year history of the World Championship Carving Competition to be awarded First place, an award she has received four times. The Record is proud to recognize Lynn’s and Cascadian Woodtech’s contribution for the past 3 years. It was Lynn’s suggestion, that we plan to highlight local artists each year at the annual awards – and Randy Frank partnered with us for 2019 to create our awards. Thank you to Randy for your support and creativity for the 2019 awards.
Thank you again to the Kumwage Dancers, the Comox Valley Children’s Choir and the Comox Valley Pipe Band. And a special thank you to Chief Gord Shreiner of Comox Fire Department for hosting again. We are thankful for the generosity and collaboration of these annual awards.
Nominations are now open for 2020 – deadline March 1st, 2020.
